CROATIA – UNI VIRIDAS
Biomass cogeneration

UNI VIRIDAS is a renewable biomass (wood residues and wood waste from forestry and sawmills) heat and power plant with production capacity of 8.6 MW electrical and 16 MW thermal.

Located in Babina Greda in the Vukovar-Srijem region, the UNI VIRIDAS plant is the largest biomass cogeneration plant in Croatia.

The project contributes to the industrial, agricultural and energy development of the region with 21 jobs on site and the supply of low-carbon heat to agricultural projects through a long-term contract, as well as to the Italian group FLORIAN, a specialist in wooden furniture

The plant also makes a significant contribution to the Croatian economy and its wood sector through its main biomass supplier Hrvatske Šume, the public organisation in charge of managing Croatian forests.

This plant has a positive social impact through the industrial and energy development of a landlocked area of Croatia, creating jobs in the region and contributing to its local energy needs.

The environmental impact of the project lies in:

1- the energy recovery from wood industry co-products ion the form of wood chips,

2- the production of electrical and thermal energy based on renewable fuel which avoids CO2 emissions,

3- the local economic contribution.
